The power goes through the Ethernet cable and consists of two modules: Injector and Splitter. The injector supplies power through cores not used in a standard network cable ("pins": 4, 5, 7 and 8), and the separator serves as a buffer between the network device that is powered and the network stream, separating them. This allows data and power to be transmitted simultaneously (over a single cable). The maximum distance between the Injector and the Separator can reach 100m/328ft as defined by the IEEE 802.3 standard
